The USS Kidd will present a World War I Centennial Exhibit and activities throughout the year. The focus on Louisiana’s involvement in the U.S. military in the war effort via Gertsner Field (Lake Charles), Jahncle Shipyards (Madisonville), Camp Beauregard (Ball), and Jackson Barracks (Chalmette). Louisiana servicemen and others who were notables of the time or later (Lejeune, Callendar, Kidd, Chennault, etc.) will be featured. The exhibit will discuss changes in technology (tanks, planes, dirigibles, submarines, chemical warfare, medicine), issues of diversity that existed in the military at that time (African-American units, Native American code talkers, female enlistment, etc.), and the war's impact on art and literature. World War I living history will be part of the 2017 programming to complement the exhibit.
